WHELLKOM

TARIK TÖRE

16 NOVEMBER - 23 DECEMBER

Whellkom to Tarık Töre’s first solo exhibition at Pilot. Now you are about to see a familiar yet unusual scenery where the crowds get together, the crowds get bigger and the parades / protests get longer. Different eras co-exist. Masks and swords; knights, scientists, kooks in disguise; football nets and a tipi*. You get dizzy. You feel that a profound change is about to happen, either in the city or in wilderness. Playing with our perception of time, space and scale, Töre’s recent paintings offer a balance between an apparent turmoil on one hand and a great amount of hope on the other. By sampling elements from separate timelines in a single body of work, he constructs a personal mythology. It’s neither a paradise nor a promised land.

*a tipi (also tepee or teepee) is a conical tent made of skins, cloth or canvas ona frame of poles, used by American Indians of the Plains and Great Lakes regions.
